The first America is Rural America. This scene is portrayed in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and The Grapes of Wrath. The classic farmers life is one of simple pleasures and hard work. The farm is what i'd imagine the Joad's farm would like like on a good year. The Walt Whitman quote seems to describe this calming scene perfectly, although the actual poem this was taken from is about the Civil War.
